This project titled 'Doily' was created as part of a University unit, Interior Materials and Components. In this unit we were required to learn about different materials and components used in the interior design of residential buildings. Then we tasked to create a design feature in a room of our choice from a dwelling allocated to us.
I was inspired by lace doilies and the intricacy of their design. I wanted to maintain this intricacy and detail, whilst also referencing the bold geometric elements used in the house.
I created a large wall feature doily using MDF board. I created the design digitally using Vectorworks and sent it to a CNC router to be cut out. The piece was finished by sanding the edges and coating it in white paint.
